Presenting Problems:
- Complaints from teachers that Hari is not attending School regularly
- Don’t complete his homework
- Sleeps in class
- Not obedient to parents at home
Individual History:
- Only Son, with twin Sisters.
- Eldest of all siblings.
- Physically & emotionally abused by his mother.
Family history:
Hari’s parents had been married for 17 years. His mother often had fights with his father. She always felt that the relatives of Hari’s father cheated on their property and his father is not assertive in asking for it.
Hari’s father claimed that ever since he got married, his life is miserable. He also told that his wife always shows all her displaced anger on Hari. His sisters were in class IX. They feel that Hari is a violent child and often gets things because of his bad behaviour.
My observations:
- The environment at home was not conducive, and that is why child became violent.
- The parents were cooperative as the situation was beyond their control.
- Hari’s mother was emotionally unstable and was little resistant to therapies.
Impressions:
- Hari was emotionally disturbed.
- He was emotionally exposed to constant power struggles.
- His non-going to school was a part of his revenge towards his mother.
Approaches:
Hari was exposed to various sessions. In third session, Hari spoke that he used to study well till 10th Standard. His mother started to show all the displaced anger on him, and he gave up studying and stopped going to School. He noticed that his mother was called and scolded as he was not regular to School. This added pleasure to him and he stopped going to school. In few sessions he was made to realize that he is punishing himself instead of his Mother .Once understood, he started taking his life responsibilities.
